Frequently Asked Questions
What
is EDEX?
EDEX
stands for Electronic Data
EXchange. In 1994 the California
Division of Workers' Compensation developed EDEX
to provide electronic access to California workers compensation case information. EDEX allows access to all public record court records from the Workers
Compensation Appeals Board from 1989 to present.
Authorized users can search for records by SSN or WCAB case number and can also file liens and track case status electronically if so desired.
How Much Does EDEX Cost?
Detailed pricing information can be found Here.
Do
I need special computer hardware or
Software?
No. Our
service is entirely Internet-based. No special
software, other than a web browser, is required.
We suggest using either Internet Explorer or FireFox web browsers,
both of which are free programs. In
addition, we suggest using Adobe Acrobat reader
as many of the response files we
generate can be printed with outstanding detail
using this free product.
I am currently using another EDEX product. Can I switch to you?
YES! Our Account Managers have handled conversion of accounts from other vendors for many years.
We can quickly and easily convert you to our EDEX web service in as little as one day. As an added bonus, we waive the setup charge for all conversion accounts!
What
types of searches can I run?
EDEX
provides two types of electronic searches, Social
Security and Case Number.
Social Security searches locate and
provide information on all of the workers'
compensation appeals board cases for an injured
worker. The search will return results for both
open and closed cases.
Case number searches reveal the same
results but limit the information you receive to
one specific workers' compensation case
regardless of whether the injured worker has
other current or previous cases.
Both types of inquiries supply the case
number and status of each case, the dates and
types of injury, all of the injured worker
information, a complete address record, and the
five most recent events that have occurred.
Can
I file liens electronically?
YES.
If you are a lien claimant you know how time
consuming and cumbersome liens are. However,
unlike traditional paper-filed liens electronic
lien filing is very simple.
Our application instantly enters your lien into the
DWC computer system. Once accepted, we provide
you with complete lien filing notices
detailing all of the information about the case,
including case status, location, dates and types
of injury, the complete address record and more.
In addition, complete lien filing
packets can be printed in Adobe Acrobat
format with just a click of your mouse. Simply sign the lien
and proof-of-service forms, attach your itemized
statement and mail!
Once your lien has been electronically filed the status of the case is continuously monitored. If a hearing, trial, conference or
other activity is scheduled on the
case you receive notification in your Inbox to
keep you up to date as every change occurs. You will never miss another trial or
hearing simply because you were never notified.
Our custom automatic calendar system also tracks your appearances for you. The calendar shows you
all future (and past) hearings as well as case information and your own notes!
What
if I don't have a case number?
We designed a special function called AutoTrack for this purpose. AutoTrack monitors a
Social Security Number and will immediately notify you if any SSN you are tracking is used to
open a new workers' compensation case in
California.
AutoTrack can save you a considerable amount of time and
money when compared to the hours spent calling
attorneys and clerks for research.
How do
I get billed for EDEX?
At the
beginning of each month we print monthly account statements for every client. All current and previous invoices are available for viewing on the Main Menu.
To simplify billing we offer an optional automatic payment service. AutoPay charges your monthly invoice total to your Visa,
MasterCard, American Express or Discover Card. No
more checks to write and no late payment fees!
How
do I apply for EDEX Service?
The first
step is to complete our online
application. There is no cost or obligation
to apply.
How
long will it take to activate my account?
If you
are not using the EDEX system for employment-related
screening we are normally able to activate your
account the same day. Employment screening
companies and certain other accounts may take
longer.
Where
can I get more information?
